Veterans hit the court for pickleball tournament at Ellis Park CHICAGO — It is known as one of the fastest-growing sports in America, and it is expanding in Chicago.On Saturday, the Chicago Park District hosted the Veterans Pickleball Tournament at Ellis Park."Once you start this you are hooked for life," Steve Kraslen, who played in the tournament, said.Dozens of players hit the court in Bronzeville for the event, with participants in beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions, all vying for trophies and bragging rights. It's a win-win," veteran Steve Thompson said.With growing demand for the sport, the park district plans to add fifty pickleball courts in the next two years, bringing the total to more than 100.The park district will be holding a third veteran's tournament this summer. Police: Suspect in hit-and-run of 3 people outside Montgomery Co. courthouse still at large Police in Montgomery County, Maryland, are looking for a suspect who they say drove into three people outside a courthouse in Rockville this week.Rockville City Police say 44-year-old Walter Giovanni Marquez-Aviles, of Gaithersburg, is charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of first-degree assault.Three people — a 79-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man — were struck by a dark-colored SUV at 199 East Montgomery Avenue, just outside the Montgomery County District Courthouse shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a news release from the department.
