CLARKSVILLE, Mo. - Clarksville’s emergency management committee met Wednesday night to prepare for the possibility of flooding. River levels are expected to crest in the moderate flood zone for Clarksville, Missouri. Mayor Jo Anne Smiley said it’s too soon to know what impact potential flooding could have on Clarksville but added that it’s not too soon to prepare. One of the attendees at Wednesday’s meeting was Jerry Manfredonia. He moved from Hackensack, New Jersey, to Clarksville and has been impressed with the sense of community and the determination to battle floods. “The whole community comes together,” Manfredonia said.  This St. Louis restaurant has the best soul food in Missouri, food writers say Gary Cecil lives in an area of Clarksville where flooding has been a problem. ST. LOUIS - Joe Mason’s timeshare trouble in Branson, Missouri, started innocently enough.“When we first signed up for this, this isn’t a timeshare. And they won’t listen to us," Mason said. "They won’t do anything about it. They’re just, keep paying us; you’re stuck in it. That’s it.”Stories like Mason’s are peppered throughout the latest Better Business Bureau investigation into timeshares and vacation clubs. An 18-year-old high school student and his 14-year-old sister were arrested Wednesday at Ramona High School in Riverside, authorities announced.  According to the Riverside Police Department, the high school’s assigned resource officer was assisting staff with “some student unrest near the end of the lunch break,” at around 1 p.m., in which a fight had broken out between a couple of kids. The incident resulted in the school being put into a “lockout,” officials added.  Police said that one student, an 18-year-old male, refused to comply with directions from school administrators and the school’s resource officer. When the officer attempted to detain the student, he resisted.  “While addressing the situation, that student’s sister attacked the officer, which required a call for additional police officers to help take both students into custody,” police said in a social media post.  The 18-year-old was later booked into jail for resisting arrest, while his 14-year-...

New signage, possibly barriers, coming to northern GW Parkway after traffic pattern change

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:16:36 GMT

This week marked the first week that morning and afternoon rush hour commuters were faced with a new temporary traffic pattern on the George Washington Parkway, and the new configuration has led to some confusion among drivers. That’s because those driving into Maryland must enter the right center lane, three miles before their exit, while motorists in the center lane are only routed on the Capital Beltway to go further into Virginia.WTOP Traffic Reporter Dave Dildine who has been watching the impact of the traffic pattern change said it has led to drivers learning the hard way that they got into the wrong lane.“What we were watching is a lot of erratic driving over the flex posts of the last minute and switching lanes abruptly,” Dildine said.Dildine said thankfully it hasn’t led to any big crashes, as drivers acclimate to the changes. The temporary three-lane configuration on the northbound side is in place, so construction crews can completely rehabilitate the southbound lanes, whic...
